The Kentucky Lottery has announced the launching of a new daily draw jackpot game, called Kentucky 5, which will have its first drawing tonight.
With tickets sold exclusively in the Commonwealth, players will find it similar to other lotto-style games, where one tries to match numbers drawn.
The jackpot begins at $40,000 each reset, and if not won, will roll a minimum of $5,000 each day until a winner is declared.
Unlike the Powerball and MegaMillions jackpots, Kentucky 5 winnings will not be shared with other states.
Tickets are $1 and can be purchased at any Kentucky Lottery retailers, and soon there will be options available for online purchases.
Players will select five numbers between 1 and 39. In order to win the jackpot, one must match all five numbers drawn. And there two other ways to win: three matching numbers wins $5, while matching four numbers secures $250.
Like other national jackpots, the Kentucky 5 does offer chances to multiply winnings. For an additional $1 per play, someone can purchase the “Xtra” feature to increase their prize amount — excluding the jackpot. Winnings for matching three or four numbers can be multiplied anywhere between two and five times, depending on the “Xtra” number drawn. With “Xtra,” players can also win $2 by matching just two numbers.
Drawings will take place every night at 10 PM Central.
Kentucky Lottery President and CEO Mary Harville noted gamers have long been seeking a contest that’s exclusive to the Commonwealth, and now is that chance.
Since 1989, the state’s lottery has generated more than $6.4 billion in revenue — of which more than $4.4 billion has been used for college scholarships, grants and education programs for Kentucky’s finest.
