City Council Approves Bids For Roof Repair, Parking Lot Paving Projects


Princeton City Council approved bids for a roofing project and a repair and paving project at Monday night’s meeting.
The city council unanimously approved Mayor Kota Young’s recommendation to accept the lone bid’s 20-year roofing system to repair the Public Works roof for a discounted total amount of $42,000.


click to download audioThe council also approved the lone bid received from a Paducah paving business for the repair and repaving project at the Princeton Police Department for a total amount of $41,700.


click to download audioMayor Young indicated the pavers will make any improvements and repairs to the underlying surface before they put a new surface on the parking lot. He noted the company would also pave the alley that connects the parking lot to Franklin Street.

In other new business, the council approved the first readings of two budget amendments — the first being a $40,000 amendment transferred from Community Development to the General Fund, The mayor explained these are tornado expenses that fell into this fiscal year instead of the last fiscal year which were not budgeted.
The second was a budget amendment compensating volunteer firefighters with a Christmas bonus.

The council also approved the appointment of Jill Giordano to the Princeton Electric Plant Board with a term to expire September 1, 2024, along with the reappointments of Kerry Creasy and Milton Cook to the Princeton-Caldwell County Airport Board with their terms to expire December 31, 2026.
The last item of business included what the mayor said was entering a Planning Commission recommendation into the record pertaining to rezoning for a subdivision on Sandlick Road.

During the mayor’s comments, he reminded everyone about the Princeton Christmas Parade and commemoration ceremony Saturday.

The city council also heard updates from council members who are appointed to the Princeton Water & Wastewater Commission, Princeton Electric Plant Board, and the Princeton-Caldwell County Airport Board as well as updates from Princeton Fire Chief Brent Francis, Princeton Police Chief Chris King, and Public Works Superintendent David Sullenger.
During Sullenger’s update, he said they finished with the annual leaf collection in the city Monday and are now getting their trucks prepared for winter weather.
