Princeton Water And Wastewater Addresses Sales Tax Change

Officials with Princeton Waste and Wastewater are addressing the sales tax change that goes into effect on January 1, 2023, after receiving concerns from customers regarding utility service.
According to officials with the utility, they have verified the following with the Kentucky Department of Revenue:
– If you live in a home with only one water meter as is the case for the vast majority of their residential customers, nothing is changing for you and no action is needed.
– If you live in a home with a separate meter for a detached garage or other building and that garage/building has a separate meter, you may be eligible for this sales tax exemption. Officials say you can call their office to discuss. If this applies to you, you will have to come to the Princeton & Wastewater office and sign an exemption form.
– You do not need to come to Princeton Water and Wastewater to sign a form if you are an existing residential customer unless you have more than one meter at your primary residence. They say this only applies to residential customers, not businesses.
After January 1, officials say if you move on to their utility service or if you change addresses on their service, you are asked to sign this form when you fill out paperwork for your new service. Existing customers are grandfathered in at their current address and will not need to sign anything.
If you are a current residential customer of Princeton Water and Wastewater, you are currently not paying a 6% sales tax and the utility is not going to start charging you sales tax after January 1, 2023.
