Sheriff Brent White has announced Jeanne Laird has been selected as chaplain for the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
He said the selection process for the position began in March of this year and was completed in October. Sheriff White said Laird has been referred to as a difference maker by the retired president of Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, Illinois. He indicated she has a proven track record of making a positive difference in the lives of others.
According to Sheriff White, Laird is a Lyon County resident who previously lived in Illinois. He said she is a non-denominational Christian with education and training in Theology, Psychology, Clinical Pastoral Education, Biblical Counseling, Police Chaplaincy, and Critical Incident Stress Management. She is ordained and a member of the International Conference of Police Chaplains.
Sheriff White said Laird represented the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office at the Federal Bureau of Investigations Chaplains Conference 2022 held in Louisville in November. Her studies included devotionals, legal updates, critical incident response and the role of chaplains, active shooters in worship settings, officer-involved shooting response and follow-up, building relationships with law enforcement officers, and calling up the next generation of chaplains.
He said Laird comes to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office with years of experience as a chaplain in a Level One Trauma Center and a chaplain with the Downers Grove (IL) Police Department. She has four adult children and seven grandchildren. Sheriff White said she was widowed five years ago, retired two years ago, and recently became engaged to DuPage County (IL) Sheriff’s Deputy Randy Caudill. Together, he noted they have eight children and fourteen grandchildren.
