Three Princeton men have been charged in a forgery investigation after checks were allegedly stolen from an elderly woman and cashed at a local grocery store.
Princeton Assistant Police Chief Shane Allison says detectives began an investigation on October 16 for an 86-year old that reported 14 checks were forged on her account totaling $4,550. He says the investigation revealed there were multiple suspects involved.
On December 9, according to the report, 54-year old Dwayne Hale was served with an arrest warrant that was requested when the investigation revealed he had cashed nine of the checks at Food Giant. He was charged with nine counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.
Around 11:15 Wednesday morning, detectives arrested 49-year old Robby S. Robinson on a Caldwell County Arrest Warrant charging him with a single count of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument after the investigation revealed that he had reportedly cashed one of the checks at Food Giant.
About an hour later, 31-year old Eric B. Allen was arrested after detectives said they discovered he had stolen the 14 checks from the victim and had forged them. He was charged with 14 counts of second-degree forgery.
Assistant Chief Allison indicates the investigation is on-going and further charges are expected.
