Williams Promoted To Navy Lieutenant Commander


Princeton native Tyler William has been promoted to the rank of Navy Lieutenant Commander in a ceremony held December 9th at the Joint Expeditionary Base – Little Creek in Virginia Beach Virginia. Williams has been serving as the Executive Officer for the Navel Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit 202 in Virginia Beach. That unit, known as Navy Seabees, was established in 1942 with the motto of “We Build, We Fight.” He was selected for this promotion based on his performance in his 10-year service in the Navy. With this promotion, 34-year-old Williams is waiting for assignment to a unit where he will assume command.
Tyler is the son of Retired Air Force Major Fred Williams and Julie Cartwright Williams of Princeton. Williams graduated from Caldwell County High School in 2007 and Western University in 2011 with a degree in civil engineering. He was commissioned in the Navy in January 2013.
Williams was able to select any current or retired officer to preside over his promotion ceremony and he chose his father to administer the oath. Fred Williams made the trip to Virginia to do the honor as Tyler’s 3-year-old son witnessed the ceremony.

click to download audioInterestingly, the rank of Lieutenant Commander in the Navy the younger Williams has achieved is equivalent to the rank of Air Force Major in the Air Force that the elder Williams had when retiring. Tyler and his wife DeAnn and son Forrest are expecting a new addition to their family next year.
