After service was halted through the weekend due to wintry weather conditions, the Cave-in-Rock Ferry is back open and running Monday.
District 1 spokesman Keith Todd with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the ferry was closed over the weekend due to metal ramps used to dock the ferry for loading and unloading being iced over due to the extreme cold temperatures.
He indicates warming temperatures allowed the landing ramps to be cleared so the ferry resumed service at 9:15 Monday morning on its regular schedule.
The Cave-In-Rock Ferry connects KY 91 with Illinois Route 1 across the Ohio River between Crittenden County and Hardin County, Illinois.
The ferry normally starts service at 6:00 a.m., 7 days a week. The last run from the Illinois landing is at 9:40 p.m. with the last run from the Kentucky landing at 9:50 p.m.
