A Providence woman was arrested for drug possession after a traffic stop Tuesday night.
According to Providence Police, Sergeant Eric Elder stopped a vehicle driven by 37-year old Cassie Newcom after she failed to stop at the intersection of Broadway and Main Street around 7:15 p.m. Sgt. Elder reported that Newcom appeared very nervous and deceptive when questioned. K-9 Kora was deployed and alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. During a search, police reportedly found a cut straw and a bottle containing oxycodone.
Newcom was taken into custody and charged with possession of opiates, prescription controlled substance not in a proper container, and disregarding a stop sign. She was lodged in the Webster County Jail.
