Kentucky League of Cities has presented 3rd District State Senator Whitney Westerfield, of Crofton, with a 2022 “Friend of Kentucky Cities” award.
KLC Director of Public Affairs Bryanna L. Carroll, along with Executive Director/CEO James D. Chaney, presented the award to Westerfield.
According to a release, Senator Westerfield sponsored Senate Bill 176, a KLC initiative that will help cities contemplating using facial recognition technology. Carroll thanked him for working with the League on the legislation. She said Senator Westerfield is always willing to sit down and talk about how bills will impact cities in his district and across the state. She went on to say the collaborative approach he took with Senate Bill 176 ensures the directives and guidance the bill provides on this new technology will benefit local law enforcement and the city officials who oversee police departments.
Chaney stated the League and its members know they can count on Senator Westerfield when it comes to discussing issues important to cities. He added that Westerfield understands the critical role cities play in the state’s growth and success.
Senator Westerfield said he was proud and honored to be recognized as a ‘Friend of Kentucky Cities.’ He noted that local government is the form of government most people know, which is what most directly impacts their community and daily lives. Westerfield stated that he is proud to help the city officials in the 3rd District in any way he can as they work to ensure safe, vibrant communities.
Senator Westerfield represents Caldwell, Christian and Muhlenberg counties.
