Officials with Crittenden County Public Schools say a bullet was found at the elementary school Tuesday.
Crittenden County Elementary School posted on social media that a teacher had discovered a bullet on the gym floor between class transitions, near a stack of student coats. Officials said while no danger or threat was suspected at any time, School Resource Officer John Shofner, along with Crittenden County Sheriff Evan Head, district and school administrators, immediately launched a search for involved classrooms out of an abundance of caution and safety. In addition, officials indicate dogs trained in sniffing for ammunition searched the entire school for an extra layer of security. School officials say after these measures were taken, and after speaking with students in the involved classrooms, it was determined that no danger or threat was evident and the finding appeared to be accidental from a weekend sporting activity.
According to school officials, trained K-9 service dogs will periodically visit all Crittenden County Schools during unannounced visits to further ensure safety in the district.
Lyon County Sheriff Brent White thanked Deputy Jeremy Hillyard who also responded during his off-duty time to assist School Resource Officer Shofner and Sheriff Head.
