A student at Lyon County Middle School has been charged with terroristic threatening after law enforcement say the male teen made a threatening statement that he was going to shoot up the school.
According to Sheriff Brent White, the threatening statement made by the 13-year old student was reported to school staff after 4:30 Tuesday afternoon upon completion of a school bus route. School personnel then reported the incident to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office later that evening.
After an investigation, Sheriff White says the juvenile was detained prior to the start of school on Wednesday and a criminal complaint was filed regarding the threat. School Resource Officer Jason Young charged the teen with second-degree terroristic threatening. The juvenile was lodged in the McCracken Regional Juvenile Detention Center by order of Lyon District Court.
Deputy Young, who is continuing to investigate the incident, was assisted by the school district and Chief Deputy Sam Adams.
