Board Members Kennaday And Cook Sworn In, Board Recognized

Two members of the Caldwell County school board were sworn-in prior to Tuesday night’s meeting.
Board members Tim Kennaday and Kim Cook were administered the Oath of Office by Notary and Secretary to the Superintendent LeAnn Orange. Kennaday was reelected in the November general election to his 7th term and has served 23 years on the board and Cook was reelected to her 2nd term on the school board.
Kennaday was also reappointed as chairman of the school board and Cook was appointed as vice-chairperson.

Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Roach recognized board members Kennaday, Cook, Stephanie Feagan, Stacy Brantley, and Anna Ray for January School Board Appreciation Month and thanked them for their service.

In new business, the board unanimously approved the Fiscal Year 2024 Draft Budget presented by Finance Officer Tammy Easley.


click to download audioShe noted the tentative budget would be presented in May which will include the Fund II grants, but she added they don’t have that information at this time.

The board also approved the dates, times, and place for regular board meetings for 2023, which Dr. Roach noted the only change would be the location of the meetings.


click to download audioIn other action, the board approved the second reading of the 2023-2024 School Calendar; another pay application to Pinnacle for the Caldwell County Elementary Renovation project in the amount of $129,850; and an architect agreement for the Primary School HVAC Renovation project. At the November school board meeting, the board approved the BG-1 that Dr. Roach said would start the process of replacing the HVAC system at the primary school with a total estimated cost of over $4 million.

And the board approved the second reading of the 2023-2024 School Calendar.

The board also recognized the high school choir, middle school choir, middle school cheerleaders and the Tiger Testimonial for January. The News Edge will have stories on those recognitions in the coming days.
