The Cave-in-Rock Ferry is temporarily closed due to high winds.
District 2 spokesman Keith Todd with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the ferry reports winds out of the west-southwest at about 21 miles per hour with gusts to 30. He says when the wind is out of the west it interacts with the current in the Ohio River and creates hazardous river conditions.
According to Todd, the ferry halted service at 10:45 a.m. Thursday morning. Based on the National Weather Service (NWS) forecast that includes a wind advisory for the rest of the day, he notes the Cave-in-Rock Ferry is likely to remain closed for the remainder of today’s schedule.
The Cave-in-Rock Ferry plans to reopen at 6 a.m., Friday, on the regular schedule.
