The Crittenden County Clerk’s Office has announced that Marion voters will head back to the polls in November to select a representative to fill an unexpired term on Marion City Council.
County Clerk Daryl Tabor said in a post on social media the city’s governing body appointed Tracy Cook earlier this month to fill a vacancy left when Glenn Conger resigned before taking office after he was elected for the two-year term last fall. The Clerk’s Office reports Cook was also a candidate in the 2022 general election and earned the seventh-most votes in the 11-person race to fill six open seats.
Tabor also said statutes will allow Cook to serve her appointment to Conger’s unexpired term until results from this year’s general election are certified after the November 7 contest. He adds that Cook is eligible to be placed on the ballot to retain the seat until the next council election in 2024.
The filing deadline for the non-partisan city council seat is June 6.
Meantime, Tabor noted Kentucky voters head to the polls May 16 for the Republican and Democratic primaries for Governor, Secretary of State, Commissioner of Agriculture, Treasurer and Auditor of Public Accounts.
