Food Service Director Will Brown with Caldwell County Schools presented the annual Nutrition and Physical Activity Report Card for 2022-2023 to the school board last week.
According to Brown, the district has a full-service cafeteria that serves breakfast and lunch with employees trained in safety and health. In addition, Caldwell schools are a full CEP District which means every student enrolled receives a free breakfast and lunch. He said they are a self-supported program and receive reimbursement from the government for every student that comes through the line. He noted they also receive commodity products and food.
Brown said they are required to keep up with the District’s Health Program and standards that continue to evolve, as well as activity standards set by the state and other groups such as the Alliance for a Healthy Generation. Another part of the District’s Health Program is facility inspections twice a year. Brown said he’s proud to say the district has scored no lower than a 98 since they started, which he attributes to the staff.
During an overview of The Nutrition and Physical Report Card analysis, Brown noted the district is well within the perimeters set by the government but there are some future concerns about standards, specifically sodium.
