Former city councilman and former mayor of Fredonia, David Jones Williams, passed away at his home Monday at the age of 68.
According to an obituary provided by Morgan’s Funeral Home, Williams started his career in 1983 with Woodmen Life as a field representative in Caldwell, Lyon and Livingston counties until 1994 when he was promoted to area manager in Hopkinsville. He served as area manager there until January 2002 when he was promoted to state manager in West Virginia. While in West Virginia, he served on the Advisory Committee for the West Virginia Department of Insurance. He was then promoted to state manager in East Tennessee in January 2007 and retired from there in 2014.
Williams served as a city council member while living in Fredonia and was also the town’s mayor for almost 8 years from 1986 to 1994. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Princeton and Caldwell County Chamber of Commerce. He also served as president of the Fraternal Insurance Counselors in West Virginia and in East Tennessee.
The obituary also indicates Williams, along with Nicky Baker, were instrumental in the development of the Fredonia-Woodmen of the World Park.
Williams is survived by one daughter, one son and two grandchildren.
