Hearing Continued in Princeton Murder Case

A Princeton man charged with murder in the death of 42-year old Gregory Cain in July of 2022 appeared in Caldwell County Circuit Court last week.
According to court records, Ashton Logan Ocampo appeared before Judge Jamus Redd on Friday and had his case continued with another pretrial conference scheduled for April 4th.
Ocampo is charged with murder and theft by unlawful taking – firearm. The charges stem from the night of July 30, 2022, when Princeton Police Chief Chris King reported officers responded to an altercation in the 800 block of Mechanic Street where they found Cain on the front porch of the residence with multiple gunshot wounds. Cain was transported to Caldwell County EMS to the emergency room at Caldwell County Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
Ocampo was taken into custody later that night after he reportedly turned himself in to the police. During Ocampo’s interview, Chief King said he allegedly confessed to shooting Cain.
Ocampo remains lodged in the Caldwell County Jail.
