Trigg County Sheriff Aaron Acree had his arraignment Tuesday afternoon in Trigg County District Court, entering a standard “not guilty” plea on four misdemeanor charges that have been levied against him.
These charges include two different scenarios, deeply detailed from a Trigg County Grand Jury indictment.
An alleged assault in the fourth degree, first degree official misconduct and third degree terroristic threatening involve a January 11 incident with Crystal Smith, who was arrested the same day for the burglary of Acree’s home.
Another first degree official misconduct charge stems from Acree allegedly renting a room at Lake Barkley State Resort Park, free of charge, and representing it to be for a drug investigation — when it was actually for personal use.
Standing as Acree’s defense attorney Tuesday was Kenneth Haggard, from Hopkinsville.
Jack Telle presided as special judge. He’s currently the chief district judge of the 58th Judicial District in Marshall County.
Prosecution in this case will come from Jason Darnell, who currently serves as Marshall County’s attorney.
Acree is expected back in district court for a pre-trial conference at 3 PM March 28.
