Motorists need to be aware of a work zone lane and load restriction on the U.S. 60 Cumberland River “Smithland” Bridge in Livingston County beginning Friday morning.
District 1 spokesman Keith Todd with the Kentucky Transportation Department says this work zone with a 10-foot load width is expected to be in place from approximately 8 a.m. to about Noon Friday as a contractor will be using a man-lift for a routine inspection element on the existing bridge at U.S. 60 mile point 12.69. He indicates some minor delays are possible.
According to Todd, Jim Smith Contracting of Grand Rivers is the prime contractor for the $63.6 million project to erect the new 1,912-foot structure immediately downstream from the existing bridge, which opened to traffic in 1931. The new bridge will feature a 40-foot-wide, two-lane deck with 12-foot driving lanes and 8-foot shoulders that will allow clearance for most farm equipment to cross without stopping oncoming traffic.
The target date for all work to be completed on the new bridge is December 1, 2023.
