Eddyville Mayor Greg Greene has announced Founders Day will now be held in September, rather than August.
In a social media post, Mayor Greene shared that the Eddyville community has been celebrating its founding since 1963. Traditionally, Founders Day has been held on the last Saturday of August, which he said seems to coincide with the hottest days of summer making it difficult for children, the elderly and pets to enjoy the celebration comfortably and without danger to their health.
The mayor said that the Eddyville Events Committee has decided to celebrate Founders Day on the fourth Saturday of September, as well as the preceding days. He emphasized that the important thing is that the community comes together to celebrate, regardless of the exact date.
Mayor Greene said the Eddyville Founders Day Celebration will be held on September 23, and that preparations are underway.
