Lyon County Student Charged After Making Threat to School

After an investigation into an alleged threat at Lyon County Middle School, a student has been charged with terroristic threatening.
Sheriff Brent White reported that deputies with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office began the investigation into a shooting threat around 7:30 Tuesday morning, which revealed a 12-year old male student reportedly made a threat to shoot up the school and specifically another student.
The student was detained by a deputy sheriff upon entering the school grounds Tuesday, and interviews were conducted with multiple students during the investigation. In addition, Sheriff White says after a review of school surveillance footage, it was determined the alleged threats were made during school the previous week.
After consulting with the County Attorney’s Office, Sheriff White says the juvenile was charged with two counts of second-degree terroristic threatening. He was lodged in the McCracken County Regional Juvenile Detention Center pending juvenile court proceedings in Lyon District Court.
The investigation is ongoing by School Resource Officer Deputy Jason Young.
