Caldwell FFA has Superior Day at Regional Speaking Contest (w/PHOTOS)


The Caldwell County FFA Chapter competed in the Pennyrile Region Speaking contest held at Lyon County High School on Friday.
The Chapter returned with 20 Superior ratings in the 22 contest students entered during the day. Superior is the highest rating a student can receive in their competition. They received Superior 1st in 9 contest and Superior 2nd in additional 4 contest meaning they came in first and second place in the Region and will move on to State Competition.
Advisor Magen Woods is proud of the students but says there is still more work to be accomplished.

click to download audioAlso placing 1st place in impromptu were Laken White in Goat & Sheep, Daniel Laurent in Swine, and Sidney McKinney in Extemporaneous speaking.
Students in the speaking contest are given a topic in their chosen category and then prepare a speech to be given in front of a group of judges. They are judged on context, deliverance, presence and time of the speech. After concluding their speech the judges are allowed up to 2 minutes to ask questions concerning their topic.
The FFA Creed contest is reciting from memory the FFA Creed which is 5 paragraphs long including around 200 words. The student is judged by presenting the Creed with all the words in correct order, pronunciation, expression and presence. Freshman Noah Bailey placed first in this contest.

The Kentucky State FFA Convention and contest will be held in June in Lexington.
