The AAA East Central Gas Price Report bore good news this week, as petroleum in west central Kentucky is five cents lower per gallon than last.
Per gasbuddy.com, in Caldwell County it’s between $2.90 and $3.19. In Calloway County, it varies from $2.89 to $2.96. In Christian County, it goes from $2.92 to $3.05. It’s $3.05 in Crittenden County, and it’s from $2.93 to $3.09 in Hopkins. Livingston County has it from $3.09 to $3.15, and in Lyon County it’s $3.09 to $3.29. It’s $2.99 in Marshall County, $2.93 to $3.27 in Todd County, and $3.19 to $3.29 in Trigg.
For other notable locations in the Commonwealth, it’s $3.07 in Bowling Green, $2.97 in Elizabethtown, $3.24 in Louisville, $2.94 in Owensboro and $3.06 in Paducah.
Last week, gas prices here were on average $3.10 per gallon. This time last year, it was $3.96 per gallon.
AAA officials note that with the arrival of spring and better driving weather, gas demand surged over the last 10 days. Fears of a recession, however, caused global oil prices to hover near $70 a barrel, which is keeping gas prices lower than expected.
The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline dropped three cents to $3.43. And this week’s national average is four cents more than a month ago, but 80 cents less than a year ago.
New data from the Energy Information Administration indicates gas demand increased from 8.59 million to 8.96 million barrels per day to end March. Increasing demand amid tighter supply would typically push pump prices higher, but not now.
At the close of last Wednesday’s formal trading session, West Texas Intermediate did increase by $1.23 to settle at $70.90 per barrel.
