Princeton Rotary Club To Host District 6710 Rotary Sectional 1 Speech Contest

The Princeton Rotary Club is hosting the District 6710 Rotary Sectional 1 Speech Contest Tuesday.
Dr. Melissa Webb-Earnest with the club says four high school contestants from the Rotary Clubs of Cadiz, Mayfield, Murray, and Princeton will be participating in the Sectional 1 Speech Contest at noon Tuesday at the Majestic House restaurant. She notes this is the second contest held in the local area before the winner moves on to the West Regional contest which will be hosted by the Hopkinsville Rotary Club on May 9th at noon.
According to Earnest, prize money will be awarded to the top three participants in the Sectional 1 contest — 1st place receives $400, 2nd place receives $200, and 3rd place receives $100.
14-year old Isabella Burton won the Princeton Rotary Club’s speech contest held in March, beating out four other local high school students to take home the grand prize of $300.
Earnest says the Princeton Rotary Club is proud to be the 2023 Sectional 1 host for the annual Rotary Speech Contest with this year’s theme of “Imagine Rotary.”
This year’s contest theme “Imagine Rotary” was selected by Jennifer Jones, the president of the International Rotary. The speech contest is open to high school students in grades 9 through 12, and contestants had 5 to 8 minutes to present their speeches to Rotarians without giving their names.
