If you’re thinking about purchasing chickens, he says its important to understand the basics of poultry production in order to have a successful and productive flock of egg-laying hens in your family’s backyard. This includes determining if there are any restrictions on raising poultry within your city or subdivision.

Additionally, you will need to provide a heat source, such as a lamp, for the chicks for the first 6 weeks and ensure that they have a safe and secure environment with food until they are ready to venture outside.
