Community members, current and former ball players, coaches, friends and family gathered on Saturday to attend the dedication of the Dewight Meeks Field on the ball complex off Legion Drive. Those present were there to show their support and appreciation of the late Meeks who served in many capacities in the community and especially at the local park facility operated by Youth Incorporated.
Meeks was well known across the area for his love of sports and young athletes by helping provide a program and facility that young people could come to and play and also for parents and adults to be proud to attend with their families. He served as president of Youth Inc. and coach until his passing in January of this year. The Youth Inc. Board decided to honor his memory by naming a field after him and the legacy he left for others.
Meek’s daughter Jennifer Sigler is grateful for the support the community has shown to her family.
