Local Soldier Surprises His Daughter On Her Birthday (w/VIDEO)


Friday, April 28th is a birthday that 11-year-old Gia Whitaker will never forget.
Gia’s father is a career military man serving in the Army stationed overseas. What she didn’t know that was with the help of her mother and the Caldwell County Elementary School she would experience a special surprise. Principal Malissa Thomas planned for a special recess for the 5th grade with the appearance of the Caldwell County mascot “The Tiger”.

Whitaker was excited to see the expression on his daughter’s face and knew she would be happy.

click to download audioWhen the 5th graders had gathered on the playground the “Tiger” was led out of the building. He was immediately swarmed by students wanting to get to see and gather around him. Mr. Tiger greeted and welcomed the students and made his way over to Gia who was playing on the equipment. He walked up to her and picked her up and gave her a big hug. Then the moment came for him to remove the tiger head and the joy and the surprise of seeing her dad overtook everyone surrounding them. Tears were shed by students and staff as they clapped and cheered for the happy reunion.

Gia was certainly surprised by the reveal of the tiger.
