An Eddyville man is facing multiple charges after a pursuit ended when he reportedly rammed a deputy’s cruiser in Lyon County last week.
Sheriff Brent White reported Deputy Aaron O’Leary and Eddyville Police Officer Josh Travis were dispatched to a complaint about a motorist driving the wrong way on the four-lane of U.S. 62 shortly before noon on Monday, April 24th. When police attempted to make a traffic stop, the driver, later identified as 24-year old Nicholas Gilbert, reportedly disregarded the emergency equipment and continued into Old Kuttawa at various speeds from 32 mph to 60 mph. Upon passing River’s Bend Nursing Home, Sheriff White says Gilbert sped up and increased his speed to 84 mph, and continued onto Luka Ferry Road where he turned into a crop field near the Cumberland River before circling back to the roadway and intentionally rammed Deputy O’Leary’s marked cruiser.
Gilbert was taken into custody and charged with reckless driving, first-degree fleeing/evading police in a motor vehicle, two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree criminal mischief, third-degree criminal mischief, third-degree attempted assault, DUI – 3rd offense aggravating circumstances. He was lodged in the Crittenden County Jail.
