The Lyon County Cooperative Extension in Eddyville will host a tree distribution event Saturday, open to area residents, especially those who lost trees in the December 2021 tornado.
Bridgett Abernathy, with the Kentucky Division of Forestry, tells Your News Edge the event will take place from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the office located at 231 Main Street.
She said the program started with the help of the Arbor Day Foundation.
The Arbor Day Foundation will provide the trees through the Community Tree Recovery program.
Similar programs occurred in the fall in Caldwell, Muhlenberg, and Graves counties and just last month in Hopkins County.
Abernathy said there will be between 12 and 15 different species of trees available for free.
She added the trees will come in three to five-gallon pots.
Abernathy said the trees are available for anyone, even if you did not experience tree loss during the tornado. The group will have around 550 trees to give away.
