Fiscal court members Tuesday morning approved sponsoring a grant application through the Pennyrile Area Development District (PADD) to help fund an improvement project at the Caldwell County Soccer Complex.
The grant through the Land and Water Conservation Fund is a 50% reimbursement for the project. The project is expected to cost around $500,000, with a $250,000 match from the City of Princeton, either as direct funding or in-kind donations.
Hailey Jones, president of the local soccer association, tells Your News Edge that improvements are badly needed for the area at City-County Park.
Jones adds they see a lot of children each year.
The grant application will be filed before the end-of-the-month deadline, according to Jared Nelson, a Community Development Specialist with PADD. Nelson says the project would entail the complete construction of the new facility and a few hundred feet of sewer line extensions to connect it to the proposed bathrooms.
State government officials in Frankfort will consider the grant beginning in November, with a final decision expected around April 2024. If the grant is approved a local fundraising effort to raise the other $250,000 will begin and construction could begin as early as September 2024.
Judge/Executive Kota Young says they are sponsoring the grant application since the city already has a project they are a part of and are not able to apply.
