For the last decade, Southside Baptist Church in Princeton has been the home of The King’s Kitchen — a humble non-profit service designed to serve lunches for children ages 2-18 years of age during the summer months.
Those 12 weeks can be some of the most difficult for families and older caregivers, particularly with school out of session.
LeeAnn Gilkey recently told WPKY and Your News Edge that if one were looking for a community service project, there’s a big need for volunteers right now — as a distribution day nears.
More than 260 kids are signed up for boxes next week, and Gilkey noted that any leftover materials are then administered to kids and families on the growing waiting list.
Gilkey also noted that the current volunteer corps includes folks aged 2 years old to 90, with the next work day planned for 8 AM Monday, June 26.
Those interested should contact Gilkey by phone at (270) 625-4627, or through The King’s Kitchen Facebook page.
