Reports Of Suspicious People Results In Two Lyon County Arrests

Two individuals from Big Rock, Tennessee, found themselves in handcuffs after concerned residents in Lyon County reported their suspicious activities Wednesday.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office received the first call at approximately 3:10 PM, prompting them to investigate four separate complaints regarding suspicious persons in the vicinity of Kentucky 730 East and Kentucky 903. According to the callers, a man and a woman were observed on foot, approaching various houses and farms in the area.
Approximately an hour and a half later, Deputy Aaron O’Leary and Sheriff Brent White discovered an unconscious woman in a wooded area off Kentucky 730 East. Lyon County EMS was called and provided medical assistance to 44-year-old Tandie Murray.
Following treatment, Murray was taken into custody as she had a Failure to Appear bench warrant from Lyon District Court. Furthermore, she was found to have suspected Methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, resulting in additional charges, including third-degree criminal trespassing.
A K-9 team from Lyon County and another from the Kentucky Department of Corrections were called to the scene to aid in the search for the male suspect. Deputy David Carroll, on horseback, and Deputy O’Leary commenced the search. At around 8:00 PM, another report of a suspicious male on Friendship Road near My Refuge was received, and Eddyville Police Officer Josh Travis arrived and detained 41-year-old Derek J. Smith.
Smith was charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance (Meth) and possession of drug paraphernalia. Additionally, he faced charges of second-degree criminal trespassing (barn) and third-degree criminal trespassing. During the arrest, it was also discovered that Smith had failed to appear in court earlier in the day.
Both Murray and Smith were subsequently incarcerated in the Crittenden County Detention Center.
