Caldwell County’s May unemployment rate was 3.7-percent was second lowest in the nine-county Pennyrile Region but was actually up a bit compared to last year.
According to information from the Kentucky Center for Statistics, Caldwell County’s civilian labor force in May was 6,346 with 236 people actively seeking work. Compared to May of last year, Caldwell’s civilian labor force is up 243 people with 195 more people working.
Caldwell’s May rate of 3.7-percent was up 1.2-percent from April and sixth-tenths higher than last year.
Statewide, unemployment rates rose in 96 counties between May 2022 and May of this year and fell in 22.
Carroll County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the commonwealth at 2.8%. It was followed by Spencer and Woodford counties, at 3% each.
Magoffin County recorded the state’s highest unemployment rate at 8.9%. It was followed by 10 eastern Kentucky counties.
