A Minnesota fugitive was arrested Thursday morning in Lyon County for leading police on a chase and being in possession of drugs and a gun.
Lyon County Sheriff Brent White said state police attempted to stop a car driven by 40-year-old Anthony Williams of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota on I-24. During the chase, Williams left the interstate at the Kentucky 293 exit and struck the concrete median, losing a front wheel from his Mitsubishi SUV.
White said Williams ran from the car carrying two bags. A perimeter was set up in the area and Williams was apprehended a short time later.
State police charged Williams with first-degree fleeing police, first-degree wanton endangerment, and leaving the scene of an accident. The sheriff also said Williams was found to possess illegal drugs, ammunition, and a .357 handgun he tied to discard during the foot pursuit.
In addition, White said Williams was a wanted fugitive from the Minnesota Department of Corrections where he violated parole for a murder conviction and was wanted in Minneapolis on firearms charges. He was also charged with being a fugitive from justice for these offenses.
