James Iley (Jay) McConnell, age 74, of Fredonia, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2023, in the Crittenden County Hospital following a long illness surrounded by his family.
He was born on October 21, 1948, in Crittenden County to the late Iley and Elva Mae Vinson McConnell. As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed gardening, quail hunting, farming, and time with friends and family. He was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church in Fredonia.
Jay is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judy Riley McConnell; one daughter, Jill McConnell of Fredonia; one son, Keith (Tammy) McConnell of Fredonia; one sister, Shirley Oswalt and Jim of Fairdealing; Larry “Pickle” (Kathy) McConnell of Fredonia; four grandchildren, Cass (Kennidy) Bennett, Ben (Katherine) McConnell, Ashley (Houston) Cruce, Olivia McConnell; two great-grandchildren, Jane Iley McConnell, Maggie Lynn Cruce; three nieces, Kim Edwards, Adeena Hardie and Laron McConnell all of Caldwell County.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Teka Ann McConnell.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 21, 2023, at Morgan’s Funeral Home with Bro. Rex Jones and Bro. Ken Cummins officiating. Burial will follow in Rowland Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Morgan’s Funeral Home.
