A Dawson Springs man is ready to report for duty as a new trooper with Kentucky State Police Post 2 after he graduated from the agency’s training academy last week.
Ethan Garrison and Leevi McMillin of Morgantown will both be serving as state troopers at Post 2 in Madisonville after completing 24 weeks of intense training to learn the job skills necessary to perform the duties of a state trooper.
The 51 graduates of Cadet Class 103 increase the number of KSP troopers protecting Kentucky’s 120 counties to approximately 940, which is the highest number of troopers the agency has employed since 2006.
Cadet Class 103 reported to the KSP training academy on February 26 to embark upon 24 weeks of intense training and 1,000 hours of classroom and field study to learn the job skills necessary to perform the duties of a state trooper. The training included constitutional law, use of force, criminal investigation, crash investigation, hostage negotiations, use of force, sex crimes, hate crimes, bomb threats, and high-speed vehicle pursuit.
KSP’s recruitment branch is currently accepting applications for the upcoming cadet class 104, slated to begin in January 2024. The deadline to apply is August 31.
