
Several Caldwell County 4-H’ers placed in the top 3 with their speech, ham, or both in the Country Ham Contest at the Kentucky State Fair in Louisville last week.
In a post on the club’s Facebook page, Caldwell County 4-H Agent Rhonda Jewell shared how proud is she of all the kids for putting forth the time and effort it takes to prepare, cure and finish their hams, not to mention writing and giving a speech at the state contest.
According to Jewell, the following local 4-Her’s received awards:
Smoked Division:
Ali Southard – 2004-2005 1st place Ham, 2nd place Speech, and 1st Overall
Taylor Wynn – 2006 1st place Ham
Landen Mason – 2007 1st place Speech, 1st place Ham, and 1st Overall
Abbi Drennan – 2008 2nd place Speech & 1st Overall
Wyatt Dickerson – 2011 1st place Ham
Jesse Flowers – 2011 2nd place Ham
Ellie Francis – 3rd place Speech & 3rd Overall
Aubrey Drennan – 2012 1st place Ham
Jewell also expressed her gratitude to Beth and Ronnie Drennan of Broadbent B&B Foods for leading the Caldwell County 4-H’ers along with several other counties, in the 4-H Country Ham Program.
