A Dawson Springs woman was charged Monday with multiple counts of animal cruelty after nearly a month-long investigation by Kentucky State Police and the Hopkins County Humane Society.
During the investigation, KSP Post 2 spokesman Trooper Ridge Porter says the Hopkins County Humane Society found that numerous Alaskan Malamutes were being sold unvaccinated and living in deplorable conditions.
He says a preliminary investigation revealed that 58-year old Nina Holm was in possession of 24 dogs that troopers discovered were being kept outside in a metal building under conditions of extreme heat, little to no ventilation, no water, and feces-covered floor.
Inside the residence, troopers reportedly discovered five puppies covered in feces that were locked inside a small cage in the kitchen.
Trooper Porter says Holm voluntarily surrendered the 24 total dogs and puppies to the Hopkins County Humane Society.
Holm was charged with 24 counts of second-degree animal cruelty.
The investigation is ongoing by Kentucky State Police Post 2.
