A Princeton man and woman were charged with drug trafficking after law enforcement served a bench warrant at a residence on Center Street Wednesday morning.
Assistant Police Chief Shane Allison says 55-year old Stephen Cartwright was taken into custody on a Hopkins County Bench Warrant around 11:30 a.m. after detectives found him hiding in the attic of a residence in the 200 block of Center Street. Allison says the bench warrant stems from a felony case where Cartwright failed to appear for a bond revocation hearing.
While Cartwright was being arrested, detectives reportedly observed three small bags of suspected methamphetamine on a coffee table.
Allison reports that detectives also made contact with 49-year old Cheri Shaw while inside the residence and found more meth where she was allegedly sleeping.
Cartwright and Shaw both were charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance greater than 2 grams of meth, 1st offense. Additionally, Cartwright was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and Shaw was charged with violation of conditions of release.
According to police, a third person, 56-year old William Dunn of Princeton, was also inside the residence and arrested and charged with second-degree hindering prosecution or apprehension after he told detectives that Cartwright was not inside the residence with him.
