Governor Andy Beshear announced Tuesday a $386 million investment to expand access to internet in 46 counties, bringing it to more than 42,600 homes and businesses for the first time.
Among the areas included in this investment, are Caldwell and Lyon counties, which collectively will receive over $729,000 from the Commonwealth. The funding, awarded to Pennyrile Rural Electric Cooperative, will be matched by the organization.
Governor Beshear said, in total, $196 million will be handed out by the state of Kentucky for these projects.
Alan Gates, CEO of Pennyrile Electric, said the state’s support has allowed them to install internet services across their nine-county service area.
In Caldwell County, the state said there are 32 homes or businesses that have no service or a very slow internet connection, that will be impacted by this investment. That number is 70 in Lyon County.
