The economic news in Caldwell County continues to be positive with the county recording the lowest unemployment rate in the nine-county Pennyrile Region for August.
Information from the Kentucky Center for Statistics showed Caldwell County with an August jobless rate of 3.6%, down three-tenths from July and up three-tenths from August of last year.
The information showed Caldwell County with a civilian labor force of 6,214 people with 221 actively seeking work.
In August 2019 before the pandemic hit, Caldwell’s unemployment rate was 4.8% with a work force of 5,457 people — an increase of 757 workers in four years.
Coming out of the pandemic, Caldwell’s workforce was 6,074 people in August of last year — or 140 fewer people than last month.
The jobless rate for the Pennyrile region in August was 4.7%, down four-tenths from July. Last August, the jobless rate was 4.6%.
Rates ranged from 3.6% in Caldwell County and 3.7% in Todd County to 6.4% in Muhlenberg County and 5.1% in Christian County.
Across the state, unemployment rates rose in 105 counties between August 2022 and August of this year, fell in eight counties, and stayed the same in seven.
Caldwell County tied with six other counties as having the eighth lowest rate for the month. It was one of just three in the top 15 not located in the Golden Triangle area of Kentucky.
As is usually the case, the 10 highest jobless rates in August were all eastern Kentucky counties.
Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends rather than actually to count people working. Civilian labor force statistics include non-military workers and unemployed Kentuckians who are actively seeking work and do not include unemployed Kentuckians who have not looked for work within the past four weeks.
