Margret Ann McNary, born on May 4, 1958, to Mark and Maggie Lucille McNary, was the twin of Dorothy McNary-Washington and the sister of Leslie James White, their brother, who preceded her in death. She married Keith Baker and from that union, had one son, Travis Baker, who also preceded her in death. She attended Dotson Elementary and then Caldwell County School System, where she graduated in 1976. She attended Murray State University for a while before settling back in Princeton. Margret, once a member of Shepherd Street Baptist Church, soon began worshiping at Spillman Chapel where Travis played the piano.
Margret was a caring and loving person who took care of her father after a stroke left him bedridden. She also worked and brought up Travis thanks to childcare assistance from Miss Robbie Mae Clayton and sometimes Miss Margret Jackson, as well. Margret, known for showing her love to others by baking and making treats, made many for Travis’ church as well as family and friends.
She worked at several places in Princeton such as The Pantry, Princeton Healthcare Manor, The Princeton Country Club, and the Caldwell County School cafeteria, where she had to retire early, due to health concerns.
After spending several years in the nursing home in Kuttawa and Princeton Kentucky, she passed away in the early morning hours on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy McNary-Washington of Baltimore, Maryland; nephews Troy and Vashaun White of Evansville, Indiana, Steve E. Washington Jr. of Sumpter, South Carolina, and Stephan Washington of Baltimore, Maryland; one niece, Synister Washington of San Diego, California; one sister-in-law, Diane White of Evansville, Indiana; and many cousins. Three of the most dedicated cousins and care-giving helpers were: Cindy Bumphis of Princeton, Kentucky, who had stayed by her side making sure she got the best medical care; Alvia Mc Lean of Oak Grove, Kentucky, and Sylvia Grooms of Louisville, Kentucky, were instrumental in completing medical paperwork needed for an appropriate diagnosis.
