Between September 2022 and September 2023, the unemployment rates increased in 119 of the 120 counties in Kentucky, including the nine counties within the Pennyrile region.
Information from the Kentucky Center for Statistics showed Caldwell County with September’s jobless increasing to 3.6%, up from 3.5% in August, and 3.1% in September of last year.
The data showed Caldwell County with a civilian workforce of 6,216 with 224 actively seeking employment.
Furthermore, the information showed Lyon County’s unemployment rate increased to 4.3% in September, compared to 4.1% in August and 3.9% in September of 2022.

In the nine-county Pennyrile region, Caldwell County showed the lowest unemployment rate in September at 3.6%, and the highest jobless rate in the region was reported in Muhlenberg County at 6.3%.
According to the Kentucky Center for Statistics, Woodford County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the state at 3.2%, and Magoffin County recorded the state’s highest unemployment rate at 9%.
Statewide Kentucky’s jobless rate in September was 4.1% compared to the U.S. rate of 3.6%.
