The Fredonia Valley Heritage Society and Fredonia American Legion Post 103 will hold a Veterans Day Service at the Fredonia Valley Veterans Memorial on Saturday morning.
According to Pam Faughn, president of the Fredonia Valley Heritage Society, all veterans in attendance at the service will be recognized. She also says a new American Flag and new flags for the military branches will be raised by the Fredonia American Legion Post 103 Color Guard. The guest speaker will be Lt. Col. Sarah Fowler Morton.
The Fredonia Valley Veterans Memorial was completed in May 2022. Faughn says all the bricks bought since then have been installed, and the progress for Phase 2 is currently ongoing. In this phase, she says they are accepting bench sponsorships and sponsorships toward constructing a pavilion with picnic tables. Faughn says Phase 2 will also consist of two other areas of the park which will include bricks honoring first responders and correctional officers who work to serve and protect us each day.
Moreover, Faughn states that the sale of bricks will continue indefinitely. Anyone can participate in this project by ordering an engraved brick in memory or in honor of a veteran, first responder, or correctional officer. She clarifies that individuals interested in purchasing bricks for the Fredonia Valley Veterans Memorial do not have to be from the Fredonia Valley, and the bricks can represent any time period throughout our country’s history. Order forms can be found in the mailbox located at the memorial.
The Veterans Day Service at the Fredonia Valley Veterans Memorial at 506 Cassidy Avenue will commence at 11:11 on Saturday morning. Everyone is invited to attend, and are encouraged to bring their own chair.
