James Hoy Nichols, 95, of Princeton, Kentucky died on November 8th, 2023 at Princeton Nursing and Rehabilitation.
A native of Princeton Kentucky he is the son of late James Urey Nichols and Olivia Blackburn Nichols.
Hoy attended Butler High School and graduated in May 1946. He joined the United States Army during World War II and proudly served as a Squad Leader attaining the rank of Private First Class. Upon discharge from the United States Army, Hoy joined the United States Air Force during the Korean War and proudly served as a Control Tower Operator attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his service in the United States Air Force he spent 40 years on the Illinois Gulf Central Railroad as a conductor. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church. Hoy was a seventy-year member of the Masonic Lodge. A member of the American Legion, Caldwell County Historical Society, NRA, and VFW. He enjoyed volunteering at the Caldwell County Railroad Museum.
Hoy is survived by his wife of 68 years Ruth Adams Nichols; his son Mark Wood Nichols (Cathy Nichols) of Cadiz, Kentucky; his daughter Mitzi Nichols Perkins (Dr. Don L. Perkins) of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; his grand-daughters Meredith Perkins Stevenson (Justyn Stevenson) of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, Dr. Mackenzie Perkins Denton (Dr. Jason Denton) of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and Mallory Perkins Massie (Robert Massie) of Pembroke, Kentucky; his great grand-daughters Mattie Claire Denton and Maren Isabelle Denton.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Pennyroyal Hospice 220 Burley Avenue, Hopkinsville KY 42240 or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Visitation for James Hoy Nichols will be held on Monday, November 13, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton.
Masonic services will be held at 1:00 with funeral services to follow.
Burial to follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery with military honors.
Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton is in charge of arrangements.
