City Council Approves Acquisition of Two Vehicles For Police Department

At Monday night’s meeting, the Princeton City Council gave their approval for the police department to acquire two new Dodge Chargers.

In a new business, the city council unanimously approved the purchase of two Chargers for a price of $51,305 each, a total savings of more than $15,000.

Mayor Brock Thomas stated that the police department has been using Chargers for several years. However, he revealed that starting next year, Dodge will phase out the police package charger, and as of right now, the only alternative available for purchase would be an SUV.

click to download audioMayor Thomas also mentioned that the city recently acquired two Dodge Chargers a few months ago and the city wants to proceed with purchasing two more Chargers. He mentioned that during the upcoming meeting, the city council will propose a budget amendment to facilitate the transfer of funds to cover the expenses for the two new police vehicles.

Under unfinished business, the city council discussed two options for spring clean-up next year. The first option involved maintaining the current approach, while the second option suggested adopting a more regionalized approach.

click to download audioAfter Phillip Franklin, the assistant director of Public Works, fielded some questions from council members, Mayor Thomas and the four council members present agreed to postpone any decision until the entire council was present. Council member Morgan Rousseau was absent from the meeting, while Sheila Gates arrived just moments before the meeting concluded.

The next regular city council meeting is scheduled for 5:00 Monday evening, December 18th.
