A major retailer has plans to open a new store off of U.S. 62 West in Princeton.
Marketing Manager Cassidy Kelly with TJX/Marshalls confirmed to WPKY’S News Edge Friday afternoon that they anticipate the new Marshalls store will open in the future.
Jenny Clark with the city planning committee confirmed Friday evening that Marshalls is the “major retailer” that she referenced in an interview with WPKY’s News Edge on August 7th following an economic development update during the Princeton City Council meeting.
She was unable to release further details at that time.
Friday evening, Clark said the contractor expects to take approximately 3 months to finish the store.
Marshalls is a retail store that specializes in discounted brand-name items, including accessories, shoes, and housewares.
According to Marshalls, the discount retail store was initially established as an Army & Navy store in 1956. It was acquired by TJX in 1995 and now has more than 1,040 stores spanning 43 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
Currently, Marshalls has one store in Kentucky located in Murray, with other stores located in Evansville, Indiana and Tennessee, including Clarksville.
TJX Companies, Inc. also owns T.J. Maxx, HomeGoods, Sierra, and HomeSense. At the end of 2023, the company reported it had over 4,800 stores, spanning nine countries and three continents, including six branded e-commerce sites located worldwide.
According to Kelly, they will release more information about the Princeton store closer to the date of the grand opening.
