A longtime employee of the Princeton Electric Plant Board has been selected as the new general manager of the utility.

According to PEPB officials, the board of directors has chosen Chris Burton to succeed the current general manager, Kevin Kizzee, who is retiring at the end of the year after 36 years of service to the Plant Board, including as the general manager the past seven years.

Burton is a longtime employee of Princeton’s public power provider. He began his career with PEPB as a lineman in 2005, after six years as an electrical contractor in the private sector. During his tenure at PEPB, Burton has held positions of operations coordinator and operations superintendent, in which he served before accepting the general manager’s position.

Plant Board Chairman Rumsey “Buz” Taylor III noted in a release that Burton’s credentials and experience stood out from a pool of several qualified applicants considered for the position. He said Burton’s selection marks the culmination of a five-month review and screening process undertaken by the board to choose the utility’s next chief executive.

Burton is a native of Dixon in Webster County but has called Princeton home for nearly two decades. He serves on several boards including the Princeton-Caldwell County Industrial Development Authority, Feeding America Kentucky’s Heartland, and is a member of the Princeton Rotary Club where he serves on the Build a Bed committee.

His wife Stefani and daughters Katelyn and Isabella are also active in the community.

Burton stated that he is very excited to have been given this opportunity to serve our community in this position. He added that Princeton has truly blessed him and his family over their 19 years being here. Burton said he is looking forward to his role and to giving back to our community in every way possible.

Burton will begin his duties as general manager on January 1.
