Farmers in Caldwell County experienced a successful season with their field crops this year, according to Ag Agent Shane Bogle.
He said it was a rollercoaster year but both corn and soybeans ended on a high note, not just in Caldwell County but across the state.
Bogle observed that the county experienced slightly below-average rainfall, but the timely arrival of rain greatly benefited the corn and soybean crops.
Additionally, he elaborated that favorable temperatures and adequate rainfall greatly benefited the corn crop this year.
Bogle also highlighted that the quantity of rainfall had a significant impact on crop yields in the western regions of Kentucky.
He believes that the crop yields have been affected by the extreme weather patterns witnessed in the past few years.
Bogle also credited the reduced incidence of crop field diseases in the county this year to the specific patterns of rainfall and storms in our area.
Another contributing factor that positively impacted the crops was the minimal presence of insects.
Bogle observed that Caldwell County faces fewer issues with insects in field crops compared to diseases.
