The Caldwell County Special Olympics hosted the annual Winterfest basketball tournament Saturday at the Caldwell County Middle School.
Teams from across the area braved the cold weather to come and compete in the contest in hopes of increasing their chance to move on to regional competition. Early in the day Special Olympics coordinator Vickie Purcell was looking forward to a big day of basketball.

click to download audioShe said this is the biggest number of teams ever in the first region so that means more competition will be involved in the regional tournament.
click to download audioThe local Special Olympics is thankful for all the sponsors who helped make the Winterfest tournament possible. One of the sponsors attended the tournament shared it held a special place in their hearts. Teresa and Wayne Cash helped sponsor in memory of their Son Jody Cash. Jody was a career law enforcement officer and lost his life in the line of duty and Teresa shared he loved special people.

click to download audioCaldwell County had two teams in the tournament with one team winning their game and the other one falling short. They will be traveling to Marshall County next Saturday and then to Murray the following week.
